Explore Port Isaac

Port Isaac from Lobber Point

The day we visited Port Isaac it was full of a film crew and actors as they were filming ‘Fisherman’s Friends’ directed by Chris Foggin. You can see the crew vans parked on the beach. Port Isaac is still used by working fishermen, but no where near to the extent it used to be when I was growing up. The fish sellers are still there where you can buy the fresh catch of crab and lobsters.
You need to park at the top of the hill in the car park overlooking Port Gaverne, make sure you pay for the ticket as there are regular checks made throughout the year. You will need to be early to get a spot as it get busy. The alternative is the new car park further up the road as you enter the village. It’s a little bit further to walk but you will always find a space, again make sure you buy a ticket.

I would recommend a visit to the chapel cafe just below Doc Martin’s surgery, if you are into that lovely show. If you like a walk you can follow the footpath over to Port Quinn which I would also recommend. An alternative way to visit is to park in the small car park there, rains get their early, and walk to Port Isaac along the cliff path. The cliff views are great and you will often see seals far below in the clear water.
